The Braided Prairie is a project rooted in resilience and the natural cycle of life and death. Each year a new and unique path is forged through this prairie when community members braid the grasses around recycled wooden posts. When autumn returns, a prescribed burn is performed on this prairie in order to prevent build-up of dead vegetation, and encourage new growth in the spring. This prairie is a way for community to come together in ritual each year to create a new path in the summer, watch as it is burned in autumn, wait as the path lay dormant in winter, and celebrate new growth in the spring.
